Description

This course is suitable for tradespersons and supervisory/management personnel involved in activities associated with High Voltage Isolation and High Voltage Switching for Access.

The course comprehensively covers theoretical aspects including:

  • Legislative requirements
  • Test equipment
  • PPE and safety equipment
  • Hazards associated with the operation of high voltage switching equipment
  • Switchgear operation
  • Earthing
  • Development of switching programs
  • Writing, checking and authorisation of switching sheets
  • Co-ordinating and directing switching program activities
  • Issuing and cancellation of access and test permits
  • Documentation

Practical skills components include demonstration of student’s ability to:

  • Develop a switching program for access
  • Conducting risk assessment activities for proposed switching programs
  • Writing, checking and authorising switching sheets, inclusive of isolations requiring multiple switching parties
  • Performing switching operations
  • Co-ordinating switching programs utilising multiple switching parties
  • Controlling activities conducted under a permit to work
  • Determine when necessary to cease switching operations and appropriate actions to be taken
  • Correctly and completely document programs and activities

Description

The course is aimed at supervisor levels and above.

Both the high voltage switching and access courses (developed after consultation with industry) have two sections. Section 1 relates to legislative, PPE, test equipment, safety equipment, and equipment operation, earthing, hazards associated with the operation of high voltage switching equipment.

Section 2 is the practical component where the participants develop and implement Switching for Access.

Description

High Voltage Refresher for either the 4 competency or the 3 competency cluster courses.

This course provides refreshment of the theory aspects of the High Voltage course. The frequency of refreshers is usually site dependent but tends to be every 2-3 years.

It should also be noted that refreshers are conducted to the current competencies so it may not be possible for persons to be refreshed if they do not hold the current competencies.
